They are available all over the e-stores in a wide variety of dope outlooks. From cute floral to the badass skull, many designs make the ordinary leather jackets super-chic, and what could be better than wearing a masterpiece customized according to your wish? So, stand up, follow this amazing guide step by step, and see every eye being stuck on you!

STEP 1: GATHER THE PAINTS!

Start with collecting acrylic paints as they give a bold and long-lasting effect on the jacket and work the best on leather. Don’t go for the watercolors or oil paints as they have a rather runny consistency than the acrylics and won’t even show up on the jacket. There are various colors available in the market and if you can’t find the one you need, mix and match!

Spray paints are an alternative for the acrylics. They cover a large surface area, so use them for attaining a full painted look. Or you can even use stencils to create other delicate and precise designs as well.

Keep in mind to go for the colors which enhance the color of the jacket. Like black, choose bright and light colors like yellow, pink, blue, white, etc. Similarly, for the white jacket, go for the dark colors. Black, red, pink, blue, orange, almost all the colors would look good on it except the pastels.

STEP 2: COLLECT THE TOOLS FOR PAINTING!

You are not thinking of painting with your hands. Here are some essentials that you will need to move the process further;

  • A paintbrush, preferably a round-shaped one.
  • A ruler because you have to make the design on the right spot.
  • A water-soluble pencil, like the Stabilo Aquarellable Pencil, would also be needed to create the outline of the design. Keep the nib of the pencil sharp, or you can avoid all this and go for chalks.
  • A pillow for stuffing the jacket for the painting. As the jacket is meant to fit on the body, laying it flat would not give the effects that you want.

STEP 3: PREP THE LEATHER JACKET!

For getting the desired results, the surface of the jacket should be clean of all the dirt and chemicals. You will need to wipe the leather with a damp towel dipped in alcohol to clean it. The paint stays for a longer period if there is no grease, wax, or cleaning chemicals on the exterior. Isopropyl alcohol works the best, but you will be required to repeat the process a few times. If this gets failed, then sandpaper would do the rest. Just stay gentle!

STEP 4: TESTING!

Before actually going into the painting process, you need first to test the paint or the marker on an inner area of the jacket. This will give you the idea of how it will look when you decide to paint it all over the jacket. If you are thinking of going with both markers and paints, then test them together as well. Cover the area with a newspaper to avoid any messiness. Mix and match the paints together on a paper plate beforehand, and you start the design.

STEP 5: PAINT!

  • Floral designs are always the cutest. If you want to give your badass leather jackets a soft and adorable touch, then paint any flower of your choice — roses, daisies, lotus, jasmine, or all together! Use floral stencils if you are not a Picasso.
  • Favorite band’s name or logo looks cool as hell! It is the best alternative if you can’t find the merchandise. You can even go for both, like first paint the iconic red lips and tongue logo of the famous rock band ‘The Rolling Stone’ and then add the name around the logo.
  • Famous quotes or phrases are also a super-cool choice. Paint it anywhere that you like, sleeves, back, front, anywhere.
  • You can also paint a certain tattoo on your leather jacket. If you can’t get the one, wear it! Butterfly, skulls, dragons, go for anything that you like and guess what – every one of them would look groovy.
  • Nicknames, initials, and kickass dialogues from movies or TV series painted jackets are also a new cool trend in the Custom Jackets. Either you want to go for your name or the person you love, the choice is yours. Remember to use the stencils if you are just a beginner – you don’t want to ruin the original vibe of the leather jacket!
